Ruth will discuss her book-binding and repair methods and you can get an up-close look as she demonstrates the process of bringing an old book back to life. The Horner Library launched its Adopt-A-Rare-Book program in 2018 to gain support for its book preservation efforts. Through the program, individuals are able to “adopt” individual volumes in support of their conservation treatment. The latest Adopt-A-Book catalog features works by German explorer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, whose 250th birthday is being celebrated this fall. An exhibit of Humboldt-related works will accompany the talk. Before and after examples of restored books will also be on display. Light refreshments will be served.
