For Philadelphia Archives Month, we invite DVAG Members to attend an exclusive tour of the Grand Army of the Republic Museum and Library at its new location on Frankford Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.

The GAR Museum was founded for Union veterans of the American Civil War. In the 1960s, the organization closed and eventually transitioned into becoming what today is the GAR Museum and Library.

Presently, the GAR Museum is the only museum that solely interprets the Civil War history of Philadelphia and they have wonderful collections to illustrate that interpretation. Included among them is the taxidermy head of General Meade’s Horse… Old Baldy.

Please join us at 2 PM on October 25th for a tour of their museum, archives and library collections. There is parking at Holmesburg Methodist Church next door. The Museum is accessible via SEPTA’s route 66 bus.

Our tour will be followed by pizza and casual discussion!

The GAR Museum has fairly tight spaces, so we’ve limited the number of slots for this tour. Don’t delay!
