The event focuses on a recent donation of the papers of Clare Gerald Fenerty (1895-1952) who made a courageous decision in the Thomas Mattox case in Philadelphia to not extradite the teenage boy to Georgia where he would have been lynched. Original papers which include the court decision, scrapbooks and correspondence will be displayed during the program and a small exhibit will be up through the month of October. Dr. Susan Liebell, a professor of political science, and creator of law and justice programming at SJU will speak about the case and the papers. Lesley Carey, Archivist and Special Collections librarian will talk about processing and acquiring the collection and show some of the significant original materials.
