Join us for the Springfield Township Historical Society’s annual Open House and be among the first to explore an exciting new chapter in preserving Springfield Township’s history! This year, we’ll be showcasing the recently digitized Springfield Sun, giving visitors an opportunity to explore this important local historical resource in a whole new way.

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the digitization of The Springfield Sun, made possible through a Historical Archives and Records Care Grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. This project has preserved decades of local news and history while making this valuable collection more accessible to residents, historians, researchers, and future generations.

The Springfield Sun served as Springfield Township’s primary source of community news throughout much of the 20th century, capturing the events, people, organizations, and institutions that shaped our community. For decades, these invaluable records existed only on fragile microfilm, limiting public access and putting them at risk of deterioration.

Now, with the digitization complete, this remarkable archive has been safeguarded and its contents can be more readily explored by the community. The newly digitized collection will support education, research, and a deeper understanding of Springfield Township’s shared past.

We’re excited to share this important milestone with you at our Open House. Throughout the event, short demonstrations will take place enabling visitors access to the digital files. Come discover the people, places, and stories that filled the pages of The Springfield Sun and explore Springfield’s history in a whole new way!

This project is supported by a grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Historical Archives and Records Care Grant, a program funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
