A program highlighting the Archives’ collection of The Hawk, SJU’s student-run newspaper, which celebrated its 96th birthday this summer. The first edition of The Hawk was published on June 10, 1930, and a complete run of the print edition of The Hawk is held in SJU’s Archives. The program includes talks by current Hawk staff members and alumni about the use of the collection in their work on the Hawk. Dr. Jenny Spinner, professor of English and Writing, and long-time former adviser to The Hawk, will discuss the importance of preserving University history through student media. The program will include a display of past pages and issues of The Hawk as well as an exhibit of staff editorials from every decade of The Hawk.
